Guitar No. 21

Date Completed:
Thursday, October 16, 2014

Made of the same design as the Peruvian walnut guitar, No. 21 is a testament to the different flavors of sound emanating from various species of back and side woods. After sharing this guitar and its Peruvian counterpart with various players for a week I have noticed a consensus. This one is the aggressive one - the tone is brighter and its ability to project is quickly apparent.

This guitar is the first of its kind to receive Augustine strings. Normally I have used Oasis Carbon strings with the Sustenuto basses and while they were the first strings to initiate this guitar's birth into the world, I had a curiosity about how nylon would sound on this model. My previous bias that favored carbon fiber is now dismantled. The "gut" sound can be enjoyed without any loss of power. I still suggest using strings of medium to high tension.

This guitar is now available from the original owner. It's in great condition and I will be doing some refurbishing work on the French polish to bring the instrument to a "like-new" condition. It's a great projecting instrument and is quite a bit of fun to play.
